Transforming Network Security at Central Michigan University:
A Successful Partnership Between Moss and HPE
The Challenge
CMU faced challenges with its existing network security system, which was outdated and unable to support the growing demands of its staff and students. Moss stepped in to assess their needs, demonstrating our commitment to understanding the unique requirements of educational institutions. Our expertise allowed us to identify gaps in their security infrastructure and propose tailored solutions.
The Solution
Moss partnered with HPE Aruba to implement a fully refreshed network security system that included advanced monitoring and management capabilities. As HPE Aruba’s leading partner in the Midwest, Moss leveraged our extensive experience to develop a unique finance package and implementation plan that aligned with CMU’s budget. This collaboration highlights the importance of having an expert guide in security solutions, allowing CMU to focus on its core mission of education.
The Results
Moss’ unique approach has made a significant impact on CMU’s network security. The university has reported a decrease in security incidents and has improved its overall network performance. Moss’ role as the expert guide in this project has been essential in ensuring that the new system meets the university’s needs and exceeds expectations.
What this means for CMU
The partnership between Moss, HPE Aruba, and Central Michigan University showcases the power of collaboration in enhancing network security. At Moss, we pride ourselves on being the expert guide for our clients, helping them navigate the complex world of security solutions. As CMU continues to thrive, we are proud to have played a role in creating a more secure network environment for everyone on campus.
Technical Innovations
Wireless Connectivity
Moss deployed HPE Aruba Networking’s 600 series wireless access points throughout the campus, enabling 6GHz connectivity to support next generation devices. In high traffic areas like McGuirk Arena, the 700 series access points were used to meet the arena’s high-density needs.
Data Center
Leveraging Aruba’s VXLan connectivity to build a spine and leaf data center solution, overlayed with Aruba Fabric Composer to simplify the management and roll out of services.
Campus Core Routing
The team used 8xxx switches to handle highspeed connections across the campus, utilizing HPE Aruba Networking’s innovative VSX stacking technology for 24/7 redundancy and reliability
Campus Access Switching
The new 6xxx series switches provided full policy and VLAN assignment, while ‘always on’ Power over Ethernet (PoE) ensured that powered devices stayed operational during system upgrades.
Aruba Central
This cloud-based service was deployed for centralized management, diagnostics, and reporting across the entire network, making it easier for the IT team to monitor and manage network operations from one platform
